A cottage pie is what most people refer to as a shepherd’s pie. These two pies are economical recipes that date back to the 18th century, when the less fortunate cottage dwellers would bake pies out of leftovers.
The main distinction is that whilst cottage pie is made with ground beef, shepherd’s pie is made with ground lamb.
Delicious and incredibly warming is cottage pie! It’s inexpensive, simple to prepare, and freezes really well! You can make the filling a day ahead of time if time is of the essence. Make the mashed potatoes and bake them the following day.
This is a very adaptable recipe. Add the onion and carrots in chunks rather than finely chopped, along with the peas, corn, mushrooms, and various spices and herbs. Finally, cover everything with sweet mashed potatoes. Feel free to use whatever ingredient you like!
To freeze some parts and have a ready-made dinner on days when you don’t feel like cooking, you may make it in a big dish or as individual servings in ramekins.
